Summer Day Camps & Speciality Workshops
Are you ready for outdoor fun?
May is quickly coming to an end, so what’s next? You guessed it, Summer!
Time to sit back and unwind. After all, school’s out and play time is in. With Lopez’s very own LIFRC Summer Workshop Programs, you can get ready for some wind blowing through your hair and major fun under the sun. Rest assured knowing that Ms. Q. Williams, a major player in this department, has been working diligently for months to execute the best summer program on Lopez as possible. There are a myriad of programs to choose from. Options are available for youth from tots to school–aged children.
Our workshops focus creative interaction with nature for all age groups. Explore the great outdoors with the phenomenal programs consisting of experienced instructors that will teach you the basic skills you’ll need to survive while outdoors! Or you may prefer to join us for the 6 Week-Long Summer Day Camp where you will enjoy more than nature itself. You can also tap into your creative side with fun arts and craft activities led by LIFRC’s very own counselors and staff. Is Adventure your middle name? Laugh out loud, then get ready to climb some of Lopez’s few remaining old growth trees with an experienced arborist.
Let’s not forget about the creative arts! We have two electrifying offering that are sure to sharpen your hidden talents including our first ever Wool Week where you'll be working with wool that is native to Lopez. Have you ever watched a movie and thought, “Hey, I can do that?” Then here’s your opportunity with Lights! Camera! Action! Movie Making Magic!! You can bring all your film-making dreams to reality with the legendary Sebastian Lasbo as your instructor.
Now, for those of you that love sports, get excited because our amazing sports camps and workshops are equally thrilling. There are three high impact camps: We have the return of the very popular British Mini-Soccer Camp, Beginning Archery for youth of all ages, and last but certainly not least we have the sport of Self-Defense!
This past year had a lot of unknowns. Isolation and uncertainly which has negatively impacted children’s social emotional connections. Lopez is most proud of the opportunity to provide children with supportive social emotional connections. This is important because children (as well as adults) need a space to navigate and manage emotions. LIFRC workshops are designed to target these soft skills and encourage youth to set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.
You’re probably thinking, “How do I sign up?”
Please see the brochure attached on this page. This year, priority will be given to local full-time residents (defined as families who live on Lopez for nine months of the year). Every effort is made to keep the classes affordable for all. Scholarships are available for Lopez youth through the generosity of local businesses, organizations, and individuals so that no child is turned away due to lack of finances. Payment Plans are also available for local residents.
Registration opens June 4, 2021. Once registration is up, you are encouraged to sign up early since there are limited slots available in order to keep groups small and adhere to COVID-19 safety protocols.
A link for online registrations will be posted on this website and LIFRC's facebook page when registration is open. Registration forms can also be mailed, emailed or picked up at the LIFRC office.
We can't wait to be together again this summer!
