LIFRC wants everyone on Lopez to thrive. If you are facing challenges meeting basic needs, we're here to assist you. We offer the following areas of support:

Household Supports

We recognize that expenses are high but wages are low. Many Lopez households are paying more than 50 percent of their income on rent each month. Come talk to our Community Support specialists about assistance programs that provide:

  • Rental assistance

  • Utility costs (electric, propane, firewood)

  • WA Health Plan Finder

  • DSHS Enrollment

  • Medical bill navigation

We'll find solutions that work for your household.

Food & Nutrition

We help individuals and families obtain nourishing foods in a variety of ways:

  • Applications for the federal Basic Food program such as WIC and SNAP

  • Emergency food cards

  • Lopez Food Share Program, an integrated food bank

  • USDA Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP)

  • Lopez gleaning program

  • Thanksgiving baskets

Transportation

Living on an island entails extra expenses for off-island errands, doctor's appointments, and other needs. LIFRC staff can help with a variety of transportation options, including:

  • Medicaid transportation assistance including ferry vouchers and taxis

  • Island Rides: free or low-cost option for islanders

  • San Juan County’s transportation voucher program

Counseling

We live in a stressful world, and at times we all face challenges. LIFRC staff are here to help you find counseling supports including:

  • The San Juan County Community Wellness Program which provides short-term counseling services

  • Referrals to Compass Health therapy services

  • Certified Peer Support Specialists

  • Referrals to other services

Wellness

We offer several community wellness initiatives that support mind, body and social-emotional well-being including:

  • Washington state's first Open Source Wellness (OSW): Lopez and interisland youth group

  • Calm & Connection Toolkit with Emerging Wisdom

  • Community Conversations

  • Health Insurance Enrollment assistance

Holiday Programs

Each November, LIFRC helps ensure that Lopez families and individuals are able to enjoy a holiday feast by providing, upon request, a Thanksgiving basket brimming with fresh ingredients and prepared foods. Our Spirit of Giving program provides gift cards and food vouchers to families with young children, for purchasing holiday gifts and meals.

Youth Development Programs

Find a program that where your child can play, learn and grow! Our focus is on helping the next generation of Lopezians foster positive relationships, explore possibilities, and build opportunities. Find our more about our Youth Development Programs HERE
