Celia Marquis, Executive Director Email: Celia Marquis
Celia Marquis is the Executive Director of the Lopez Island Family Resource Center (LIFRC). She has worked for the LIFRC since 1998 and has been the Executive Director since 2000. She oversees a staff of nine employees and coordinates the Readiness to Learn Program for San Juan County. Prior to working at the LIFRC she was Director of the Lopez Kids' Summer Workshops. Ms. Marquis, with a degree in special education from the University of Puget Sound is currently completing her master's degree in Human Relations.
Patty Bean, Financial Director Email: Patty Bean
Patty Bean is currently the Financial Director for the Lopez Island Family Resource Center. She has been with the LIFRC since 2002 and has thoroughly enjoyed working with the staff and members of the Lopez community. She grew up in Massachusetts and made the Northwest her permanent home in the 1980s after graduating from Western Washington University with a BS in Geology. Patty spent 14 years working as a naturalist at North Cascades and Mount Rainier National Parks. Patty and her husband have two teenage boys. She enjoys reading, the outdoors, traveling, and exploring the world through the eyes of her children.
Patsy Haber, Program Coordinator Email:Patsy Haber
Patsy Haber is the Program Coordinator, working half-time. Patsy oversees the after school programs, summer workshops, youth services, energy assistance program, and spirit of giving programs. She assists with other family support services such as basic food, medical insurance, and other forms of resource and referral. Patsy has worked at the Family Resource Center since the beginning of 2006. She is involved in various community and school volunteer opportunities with her 3 children who attend Lopez School, and prior to working at the Family Resource Center was a CPA and CFO for a wholesale electronics distribution company. She has a B.A. from the University of Washington. A few of her favorite free time activities are hiking, kayaking, yoga, and of course, time with friends and family!
Diane Letchworth, Family Advocate Email: Diane Letchworth
Diane Letchworth is the Family Advocate for Lopez Elementary School. This position is funded by the Readiness to Learn grant and administered by the Family Resource Center. She has held this position for four years. As Family Advocate, Diane directs her services toward any problem which is experienced by a child or family which in some way impedes the child's academic success. She will then work with the family, child, teacher or Resource Center to alleviate that problem. Diane has worked in the field of mental health since 1983. She has a B.A. in Psychology from Hayward State University and an M.S. in Clinical Psychology from San Jose State. She currently maintains her license as a Marriage and Family Therapist.
Susie Teague, Primary Intervention Program Email: Susie Teague
Susie Teague is the Primary Intervention Program (PIP-Special Friends) Coordinator and the Mentor Coordinator for Lopez Island Family Resource Center (LIFRC). As the PIP Coordinator, Susie sees young children from preschool-5th grade in a one-to-one child-directed playroom setting. This program helps children make adjustments to school and/or life situations, helping children to express themselves and enhance their self-esteem. As Mentor Coordinator Susie works to ensure the mentors and mentees (children) have a successful experience, and to maintain and increase community awareness and participation in the mentor program. Susie's past skills and knowledge includes working in a mental health setting for children, adolescents, and their families. She has also worked in community recreation setting for individuals with special needs (as founder of a non-profit organization and working in a public organization). Since moving to Lopez Island Susie's experience includes substance abuse prevention and community organization and most recently Susie was the director for Lopez Children's Center. Susie holds a BS degree in Psychology and a BA degree in Therapeutic Recreation.
Nancy Ewert, Student & Family Advocate Email: Nancy Ewert
Nancy Ewert has served as the Student/Family advocate in the Middle/High school since January 2007. The programs she supervises are the Homework Club, Girls Circle and Student Success Class. Nancy brings varied experiences to this role. Prior to her life on Lopez, she worked as a family counselor at Craig Rehabilitation hospital with spinal cord and head injuries. She worked in the elementary school as the Special Friend Coordinator for 5 years prior to her current position. Nancy has three children, two of whom attend Lopez school. She enjoys being more a part of their world as well as her husband's who is a middle school teacher at Lopez School. Nancy has an MA in Rehabilitation Counseling from University of Northern Colorado.
Contessa Downey, Office Assistant Email: Contessa Downey
Contessa Downey is the Family Resource Center office assistant. An Oregon native, she has lived on Lopez Island for six years. She is responsible for many tasks essential to the operation of the LIFRC office including management of the LIHEAP program. In her spare time she enjoys gardening.
Kirsten Anderson, Americorps Volunteer Email: Kirsten Anderson
Kirsten Anderson is a proud Montana native, yet considers herself a respectable Pacific Northwest adoptee. She holds a BA in Studio Art and a BS in French from Western Washington University. She is happiest behind a Tom Robbins’ novel, frolicking in the alpine meadows of the North Cascades, sleeping outside underneath the Milky Way or drawing contour outlines of her beautiful Grandmother, Audrey Ramona. She was attracted to Lopez Island for its unique geography, focus on community and creative inhabitants.
Sue DuMond, Webmaster Email: Sue DuMond
Sue DuMond is Webmaster at the resource center. She also teaches movie-making in the kids summer workshops. She has a B. A. in photography from Columbia College in Chicago. A 25 year resident of Lopez Island she is excited that her job at the resource center includes working with the wonderful and talented young people on the island. She has one daughter and in her spare time she puts on music concerts on the island and is involved with the start-up of a low-power FM station.
